Early verdict on Panama case in country’s best interest, says Sindh governor

ISLAMABAD: The sooner the Panama Leaks verdict is announced, the better it is for Pakistan.

These views were expressed by Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair while addressing media outlets on Thursday.

“Delay in the verdict is negatively impacting the stock market,” Zubair said while addressing the ‘Leaders in Islamabad’ summit.

Discussing the law and order situation in Karachi, the governor said that peace was restored in Karachi in the past four years. “An eighty percent decline in incidents of gang war, extortion, and street crime was achieved in the city.”

He attributed the entire credit of the Karachi operation to the prime minister.

“Success of the (combing) operation and Operation Zarb-e-Azb in Karachi is everyone’s success,” Zubair said. “The Rangers will continue to operate in Karachi till the economy stabilises.”

Zubair remarked that despite the posting of Rangers in Karachi since long, the non-serious attitude of the previous government hindered the restoration of peace.

The governor commented on the serious resolve of the government to establish peace in Karachi before former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif’s decision to launch Operation Zarb-e-Azab.

Mentioning the Muttahida Quami Movement’s (MQM) headquarters in Karachi, the governor said: “90 have been shut down and nobody has demanded to open those offices.”

“The founder of MQM is now part of history,” he added. “His speech in 2004 in Delhi was much more harmful to the country than his 2013 speech.”

The Sindh governor expressed his anxiousness at the court not announcing its final verdict on the Panama Leaks case. “I will be happy to hear the verdict,” he said.
