Khyber Pakhtunkhwa AIG Akhtar Shah removed from his post

• Will be treated as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD)

According to an official notification, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa AIG Syed Akhtar Ali Shah was removed from his office and was directed to report to the Establishment Department. It means that now he will be treated as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD), without any assignments or responsibilities.

Akhtar Ali Shah was directed to report to the Establishment Department following the civil suit against Salahud Din Mehsud appointment as the new inspector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police.

A day earlier, Akhtar Ali Shah challenged the appointment of his junior colleague Salahud Din Mehsud as Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police in Supreme Court of Pakistan. The court has already admitted the civil suit for the preliminary hearing and issued notices to respondents included the federation, the government through the attorney general and others.

Salahud Din is Grade 21 officer and was serving as Deputy Inspector General of Counter Terrorism Department till his new assignment. Besides Salaud Din two other grade-22 police officers Liaqat Ali Khan and Syed Akhtar Ali Shah were on the list for the office of IGP. However, the government neglecting the seniority, issued the notification in favour of Salah Ud Din Mehsud.

Both Syed Akhtar Ali Shah and Liaqat Ali Khan have a wide range of experience of serving both in the field and against responsible administrative offices in police and other law enforcing agencies. Liaqat Ali Khan was serving as Commandant of Frontier Constabulary. In the light of recent reshuffling including posting of Salah Ud Din Mehsud as IGP in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Liaqat Ali Khan was posted Director General of Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) and Syed Akhtar Ali Shah as Commandant of Frontier Constabulary. However, KP through its latest notification revoked the previous one ordering Akhtar Ali Shah to report to the Establishment Department for his new responsibilities—  as an OSD.

Syed Akhtar Ali before posting of Salahud Din Mehsud had also looked after the office of IGP as acting charge or in acting capacity. During this period, he made tremendous achievements of building up trust between the police force and common people.
