The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday confirmed that eight members of the banned Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) had surrendered before the Pakistan Army in Mohmand Agency.
In a statement, the army said that the members of the banned outfit had laid down their weapons in Mohmand Agency. The suspected militants who surrendered include Akbar, Gull, Siraj and five of their accomplices, the release said. “All of them promised of abandoning their act of terror,” it said.
However, the military’s media wing did not share further information about the suspected militants, such as whether they were involved in recent terrorist attacks or not. The Jamaat-ul-Ahrar claimed several terrorist attacks in the recent past, including a suicide bombing outside the Punjab Assembly in Lahore in which at least 13 people were killed and 85 injured.
In recent days, it was the first group of the banned militant outfit, surrendering themselves to the security forces. Earlier, a large number of the militants associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban in Swat, South Waziristan and North Waziristan and Lashkar Islam from the Khyber Agency surrendered to the security forces.
The government has already established reforms centres for these militants who surrendered to the security forces.
