IGP directs increase in security of census teams

Chairing a video-link conference at the Central Police Office here on Wednesday, Punjab ‘s Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera has said that the security of worship places of minorities, educational institutes – particularly ones with co-education – and all important installments should be beefed up.

The IGP further directed field officers to revise the security plan for census teams in those districts where the census is still ongoing. Concerned RPOs and DPOs should deploy police officials in civil attire, along with local police, to keep an eye on the surroundings and provide security to the census teams by maintaining a distance.

Vantage points should be set at such places at a distance not easily reachable by attackers in any emergency situation, armed sentries should be deployed at these vantage points to counter attacks in case of any untoward incident, he said.

He directed all RPOs to personally check security arrangements for census teams, educational institutes, worship places, and other important installations. They should also ensure effective monitoring and a daily briefing to the deployed police officials regarding the sensitivity and importance of their duty, said the IGP.

Sukhera further said that the current warlike situation demands more vigilance and the fulfillment of duties with the required spirit. He directed field officers to expedite work on all ongoing projects in the current year along with making their monitoring more effective. Completion of all these projects should be ensured in the current year as planned, he said. DPOs and RPOs should maintain close contact with concerned buildings department officers in their districts and must personally visit undergoing project sites on weekly basis the IGP directed.

Add IGP Welfare and Finance Shoaib Dastgir, Add IGP Operations Mohsin Hassan Butt, DIG Development Kamran Khan, AIG Operations Akhtar Abbas and SSP CTD Babar Sarfraz Alpa were also present during the meeting.
