Four soldiers among six killed in suicide attack on census team in Lahore

LAHORE: A blast on Lahore’s Bedian Road on Wednesday killed six people while injuring as many as 18 others.

Among those killed, four were army personnel and two civilians, who were part of a census team.

According to security sources, it was a suicide blast which was targeted towards a census team van parked near Manawala chowk. However, initial reports claimed it to be a cylinder blast.

According to a Punjab Government spokesman, the amount of explosives used has yet to be determined.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and started a search operation.

The injured have been shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and General Hospital.

Three of the injured are reportedly in a critical condition.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif both expressed their condolences on the lives lost in the blast.

This incident is one of the many that have recently hit the country. In February, a blast in Lahore’s Defence area killed at least 10 people, whereas another blast near the Punjab Assembly in Lahore left at least 13 people dead. The Pakistan Armed forces launched a military operation Raddul Fasaad across the country after this recent wave of terrorism.
