Sargodha massacre: Suspects presented in ATC

SARGODHA: The shrine custodian along with four accomplices in Sargodha massacre case were presented before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday (Today).

Waheed and his accomplices, Asif and Zafar, were taken to the court under tight security.

Moreover a joint investigation into the case has started, while food items collected from the site of the incident at the shrine have been sent to the forensic laboratory.

Police had arrested seven suspects along with the 50-year-old shrine custodian Abdul Waheed for intoxicating and murdering 20 devotees and injuring four others with batons and knives.

Police filed a case Waheed and his accomplices on Sunday, claiming that no one from the bereaved families has come forward to file a complaint.

According to the police, the bereaved families hold Waheed in high regard despite him confessing to the murder of their loved ones.

Sargodha Deputy Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta said that Abdul Waheed, the successor of Ali Muhammad Gujjar, is mentally unstable and an employee of Election Commission.

However, three people including a woman escaped from the shrine and reached District Hospital Sargodha in injured condition.

The woman reported the incident to the authorities after which heavy contingent of police rushed to the scene and arrested the suspects.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had also asked for a police report on the mishap within 24 hours, a senior government official said.
