Construction of energy-efficient buildings can help reduce the impact of hot weather, said Sardar Azam Rashid, a technocrat and former advisor to Punjab’s chief minister while talking to the APP here on Sunday.
“It is unfortunate that our people, especially architects of new buildings, ignore hot climate. They just blindly follow constructions in Western countries and create designs open to the sun,” he added.
He said that the incompetence of the architects cost the owners and users of the buildings and the whole nation dearly, not only in financial terms but socially and culturally as well.
The energy consumption of the Pakistani domestic sector is one of the highest in the world. Its use is about 45% of total production, while energy deficiency is gravely affecting our economic growth and industry.
“By creating energy efficient constructions, we can minimise the shortfall of power and gas, among other resources, and enable the nation to get rid of load-shedding,” he added.
“Low-cost and easy-to-apply energy conscious design strategies are needed to redress the issue of Pakistan’s hot climate and effectively utilise the positive side of the country’s solar geometry,” he said.
