KARACHI: Sindh Inspector General Police (IGP) Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti after taking charge held his first conference on Sunday.
Additional Inspector General (AIG) Sindh Aftab Pathan, AIG Traffic Sindh, deputy inspector general (DIG) Finance, DIG Traffic, and AIG Operations Sindh attended the meeting.
The conference, held at Amroz Central Police Office in Karachi, the IGP reviewed the security arrangements for Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s death anniversary.
“At least 6,800 police officers will monitor provincewide security,” Dasti said. “700 traffic police officers will be posted to ensure a smooth flow of traffic on the occasion.”
The police chief added that attendees will be monitored through drone cameras. “The security arrangements will be made under the supervision of 26 Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs),” IGP Sindh said.
Dasti stressed on ensuring proper execution of a carefully crafted contingency plan. “Negligence or carefree attitudes towards protecting the public’s lives and properties won’t be tolerated,” he said. “Police officers and personnel found guilty of such behaviour will have to face strict disciplinary action.”
The police chief said that the police will closely monitor Sindh’s borders through snap checking and patrolling on routes leading to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh and Naudero, as a large number of attendees are expected at Bhutto’s 38th death anniversary arrangements.
“Check posts will be established at all entry and exit points and the police will ensure thorough surveillance,” Dasti said.
The police will remove encroachments from all central routes leading to Garhi Khuda Baksh with immediate effect and parking lots will be closely monitored.
“I will personally monitor the collection and sharing of advanced intelligence, sweeping by bomb disposal squads, and all clearance processes by the area’s supervisory officers,” the IGP Sindh stated.
Sindh police’s representatives stressed that the public should inform Madadgar 15 or the nearest police station on spotting any unclaimed bags, parcels, shopping bags, cars etc.
