Police identify attacker of MNA’s guard

After three days of attack on a cop deputed for security of MNA Asghar Junejo, Karachi police has obtained Close Circuit Television (CCTV) camera footage of the attacker, it has been learned reliably.

According to police, a biker, harassing a girl on Clifton Zamzama Street, fired five straight bullets at MNA Asghar Junejo’s policeguard constable Ghulam Hussain Junejo when he tried to rescue the girl screaming for help.

As per details, the Karachi police identified the attacker with the help of CCTV footage retrieved from a camera installed outside a nearby bungalow.

Sources told Pakistan Today that the police got the registration number of the two-wheeler on which the attacker was riding. The police shared the details with the Citizen Police-Liaison Committee (CPLC) to get the details of the vehicle owner.

Sharing details of the case, the sources said that the cop was standing outside a house on the spot where the MNA arrived to meet his relatives. “In the footage, the guard was seen standing at the main gate and a bike rider on corner of the road pulling the hand of a girl who was standing there to catch a bus,” the sources added.

“The guard tried to rescue the girl but the bike riders opened fire on him and tried to escape when another constable of MNA security protocol retaliated and injured the motorcyclist; however, the injured man managed to escape from the spot,” the sources added.

The injured cop was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment, where after surgery he was shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Hospital sources claimed the condition of the cop is now stable.

Talking to Pakistan Today, Clifton SP Dr Assad Malhi claimed police was hunting the attacker. “As per the available details, the attacker also got injured and we communicated to all public hospital to inform police about arrival of every injured person,” the SP added.

“On the day of attack, the police visited all hospital located in DHA and Clifton and inspected the hospital’s operation theatre and emergency, but the police couldn’t get clue from any healthcare facility,” the SP added.

When he was asked about CCTV footage of the attack, SP claimed that the police got clue in this case and expressed a hope that the attacker would be arrested shortly.
