LAHORE: A fire erupted at Lahore’s Anarkali Bazaar on Friday injuring two people and reducing at least 15 shops to ashes, rescue officials said.

An electrical short circuit in one of the buildings was the likely cause of fire in the bazaar where decoration paraphernalia such as firecrackers and aerosol sprays are sold.

The fire spread to the plastic godown. Twenty-four shops and three halls have been completely destroyed by the fire.

Rescue teams reached the scene and started the relief work. However, they have not manage to extinguish the raging flames after seven hours of struggle.

Rescue teams stated that the fire cannot be doused unless all the plastic material is completely burnt.

Twelve people were killed in a similar incident in the same market two years ago.
