SC likely to announce Panama leaks case verdict by mid-April

ISLAMABAD: Supreme court is likely to announce its verdict regarding the Panama leaks case by mid-April.

Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, who headed the five-member bench, is writing the judgement whereas the other four judges might submit seperate notes. All political parties are looking at the Panamagate’s verdict in order to devise future political strategy.

Justice Asif Saeed Khosa had remarked at end of hearing that this decision would be remembered for the next 20 years.

The issue began with a leakage of at least 11.5 million documents from dataebase of Panama-based law firm, Mossack Fonseca backed in April, 2016, giving details of the apartments, foreign bank accounts including offshore accounts allegedly owned by the Sharif family.

On October 20, 2016, the Supreme Court (SC) took up petitions by PTI, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Awami Muslim League (AML) and others for hearing, in an open court. The apex court wrapped up hearing on February 23 and reserved its judgement.
