The police have reinstated a known dacoit based on safarish so that he may again loot citizens, it has been learned.

According to police records, Constable Muhammad Ahsan has several pending cases against him, including a robbery case. A resident of Talspura Manawan, Ahsan was inducted into the police based on safarish and bribes, sources say, allowing him to use his uniform to further his various criminal activities, including robberies with an accomplice, Aslam.

They began robbing houses in Manwan with the help of other accomplices, looting residents of their jewellery and cash, for which they eventually had cases filed against them.

The gang was arrested in 2005, leading to the recovery of jewellery worth Rs 200,000 and their being sent to prison before the constable was released on bail.

The constable was arrested again in 2013 and another case was filed against him, this time in Harbanspura Police Station.

Based on a special report, the constable was kicked out of the force, but was re-inducted after safarish and bribes from and to the right people, being posted to the Police Lines. His criminal records, however, still exist in the criminal records office (CRO) despite his attempts to have them erased.

When contacted, the CRO department claimed ignorance of the matter, refusing to talk about it and hanging up the phone.
