- Aleem Khan pushes questioner at one instance; Journalists hold protest against PTI after threats
State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Wednesday slammed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan over mistreatment of a media person at his residence in Bani Gala.
“Imran Khan is responsible for the incident, as the PTI chairman has a mischievous and divisive mindset,” she said in a statement, issued after the incident when a journalist questioned regarding land encroachments, saying PTI leader Abdul Aleem Khan is also being named in the matter.
After the press conference, Aleem, who was also present, allegedly took the reporter aside and asked him not to pose such questions. The media representatives present at that time protested over which the PTI leader reportedly got angry and misbehaved with them.
Marriyum said that Imran Khan should apologise over the incident. In the past, the PTI workers have misbehaved with media personnel, he pointed out. She said that if the PTI chief has not done anything wrong then he shouldn’t be afraid of coming clean.
A private TV channel reported that the press conference of the PTI chairman witnessed disruption when a journalist asked Imran Khan about allegations of illegal encroachments at Bani Gala. The PTI leader became furious and misbehaved with journalists at this question.
“If you wanted a five or 10 marla plot then you should have told us before,” Abdul Aleem Khan said after the PTI chief concluded his presser. The PTI leader went on to threaten the journalist after the news conference and even pushed him at one instance. On the other hand, journalists held a protest against PTI afterwards and chanted slogans.
Such behaviour of PTI or its leaders and followers is not new to journalists as the party leaders have already slapped and snubbed the media persons in the past press conferences in Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar for asking tough questions or pointing out contradiction in their statements.
