  • Ex-AJK PM says new status for region to affect Kashmir cause

Former Azad Jammu Kashmir prime minister Sardar Attique Ahmad Khan, who heads All Jammu Kashmir Muslim Conference party, has said that Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) will not be allowed to be made province (of Pakistan) at any cost.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should not take such steps which hurts the feelings of Kashmiris, he said while addressing a reception hosted by his party leader Syed Zahoor Hamdani here on Tuesday. “Gilgit-Baltistan is part of Jammu Kashmir,” he said.

He suggested that powers be delegated to Gilgit-Baltistan rather than making it a province. He went on to say that Kashmir cause would be affected badly if Gilgit-Baltistan region becomes a separate province.

He said that the Azad Jammu Kashmir government should adopt a solid approach on Gilgit-Baltistan. Then “we will support it,” he declared. He said that non resolution of the Kashmir issue has put at stake the peace of the entire world, particularly South Asia.

He said that the international community should play its vigorous role to address the long-standing Kashmir issue. The former prime minister also said that PML-N has completely failed in the state as the party workers despite having their own government were considering them worse than the opposition.
