ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday issued a notice announcing the decision to demote 121 Punjab police officers who got out-of-turn promotions.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Amir Muslim Hani heard the case during which the court sustained the verdict of the high court and ordered demotion of the officers.
Justice Amir said that those who got promotion without hard-working need to be downgraded.
The issue was taken up over the report of Punjab IG Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera that mentioned the names of officers, including those from the rank of inspector up till the deputy inspector general.
The advocate general of Punjab defended the promotions. But Justice Qazi Faez Isa expressed anger, saying to the advocate general that he and the provincial law minister should be issued contempt of court notices for speaking against the court’s notices.

Justice Qazi Faez should be taking decisive action with regards to contempt of court, not empty words. Unless law is strictly enforced with strict punishment, these scoundrals will keep doing what they are doind now.
