Provincial Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that the government is spending a huge amount of funds for the provision of quality healthcare services.
He said that the Rawalpindi Institute of Urology and Kidney Transplantation (RIU) would soon be completed at a cost of Rs 4000 million. The minister further said that it was a state-of-the-art institution where all medical as well as surgical facilities would be available for kidney patients along with diagnostic facilities including MRI, CT scan, and dialysis.
He stated this while visiting the construction site of the institute on Wednesday. Kh Salman Rafique directed officials to accelerate construction without compromising the quality of work. He said that the project should be completed as soon as possible so that people of Rawalpindi and its surrounding areas could benefit from the latest health facilities.
Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Talat Mehmood Gondal, Coordinator of Development Schemes Dr Athar, Rawalpindi Medical College Assistant Professor of Urology Dr Masroor Malik and other concerned officials also accompanied Rafique.
The health minister also presided over a meeting to review the arrangements being made and steps being taken for the eradication of dengue in Rawalpindi.
Kh Salman Rafique directed that paramedical staff and nurses to participate in the dengue campaign in the hospital. He said that due to the commencement of summer, dengue breeding had begun in the province and therefore all the departments should take concrete steps and pay attention to outdoor and indoor dengue surveillance to check the virus.
He directed the officers of the environmental department to present a report regarding measures taken by their department for dengue control in the next meeting. He said that no negligence or leniency would be tolerated in this regard. He appreciates the work of the officers of the social welfare department and the director of colleges for taking effective measures against dengue.
Kh Salman Rafique said that a vigorous awareness campaign against dengue will also be launched for which seminars and walks should be arranged besides displaying banners and hoardings on main roads and roundabouts.
Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Talat Mehmood Gondal, senior officers of all the concerned departments including Health Chief Executive Officer Dr Arshad Ali Sabir, MS DHQ Hospital Dr Khalid Randhawa, and MS Benazir Bhutto Hospital also attended the meeting.
