Water level in Mangla Dam recedes to 1040 feet

The water level in the country’s biggest Mangla Dam’s reservoir has receded to a dead level of 1040 feet, it was officially told.

Official sources told the news agency Monday that water level in Mangla Dam on Monday went down to a dead level of 1068.45 feet and it was gradually receding.

The maximum conservation of water in the reservoir of the country’s largest dam located in Mirpur district of Aza Jammu and Kashmir is 1242 feet.

Inflows of Jhelum River in Mangla Dam reservoir on Monday was 38,100 cusecs against the outflows of 39,100 cusecs of water from the dam, the sources said.

The sources added there has also been a considerable decline in per day power generation from Mangla Dam following the receding water level in the reservoir.

The position of the river inflows and outflows at Tarbela, Mangla and Chashma along with reservoirs levels and the barrages on Monday was reported as under:

Tarbela: Minimum operating level 1380 feet, present level 1384.85 feet, maximum conservation level 1550 feet, live storage today 0.055 million acre-feet (MAF).

Mangla: Minimum operating level 1040 feet, present level 1068.45 feet, maximum conservation level 1242 feet, live storage today 0.175 MAF.

Chashma: Minimum operating level 637 feet, present level 642.30 feet, maximum conservation level 649 feet, live storage today 0.186 MAF.

The inflows and outflows of River Indus at Tarbela and Chashma, River Kabul at Nowshera and River Jhelum at Mangla have been reflected as mean flows of 24 hours, whereas the other flows have been gauged at 6:00 am.
