PU reopens four days after student groups clash

LAHORE: University of the Punjab (PU) reopened on Monday after suspending all sorts of activities for four days, according to reports.

However, according to details, only gate number one will be open; all other entrances will remain closed. PU’s vice chancellor is scheduled to have a meeting with all departmental heads.

Baloch-Pakhtun council’s media advisor Adil Zaman said students will only attend classes once reservations of the group are addressed. According to a University representative, all sorts of political activities are forbidden on the University’s grounds.

Last week, at least 18 students were left wounded due to a clash between two rival student groups in Punjab University; Police had to be called in to control the situation. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah put the responsibility of the clash on Islami Jamiat Tulba (IJT) activists.  The IJT, on the other hand, said that the rival group initiated the attack.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and asked for an explanatory report. The chief minister gave surety that action would be taken against those responsible
