JHANG: A newlywed bride was found dead in her room in Kot Shakir, Jhang, on Sunday.
According to the police, the groom had managed to escape from the scene. The girl was suffocated to death, according to the initial postmortem report. There were injuries on her knees too.
The groom, Shafeeq, had eloped with the girl, his relative, to marry of their own accord a few days ago. Afterwards, the girl’s parents had gotten in touch with a panchayat to ensure her return.
The body was found when a neighbour had visited their house to meet the girl. However, the house’s hasp was locked from the outside. The neighbour then opened the door and went inside to see and found the newlywed’s body in her room and the groom was nowhere to be found.
Police was called to the site, who then handed over the body to the girl’s family after the completion of post-mortem. A case was registered by the girl’s family and the police have started the search for the groom.
According to area residents, the groom was a drug addict who did not even have a job. He was involved in multiple small-scale robberies or muggings, according to reports.
Recently, another newlywed was found dead in her room by her in-laws in Lahore’s Samanabad area. It was later revealed that she was killed by her groom.
