CM directs PPSC to interview candidates through video link, Skype


Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting to review the performance of Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), in which PPSC Chairman Lt Gen (R) Sajjad Akram presented the performance report for the year 2016.

The chief minister, while applauding the entire team, said that substantial steps should be taken for strengthening and continual improvement of the commission; on top of it, it will be equipped with modern technology in order to comply with the latest trends. He directed to convert the whole system to online and facilitate candidates by conducting their interviews through video link and Skype. He also directed to expand institution in all mega cities along with regional offices in seven divisions.

The chief minister ordered to establish high-level committees which will not only devise final plan after reviewing all recommendations but also monitor pre-service training, improvement of service rules and other concerned matters.

“Check and balance is mandatory for improving the performance of institutions, likewise, it’s the aim of Punjab government to bring forward the talented individuals, and PPSC has to play its effective role in this regard, he added.” CM Shehbaz said the only way to achieve prosperity is through merit and transparency, and that is why the government has promoted this culture in the province, and appointments in all institutions have been made solely on the basis of merit. He directed the commission to increase the number of members and also review the acquisition of leading consultants’ services to improve its efficiency. He said that head office of PPSC will be shifted to LDA plaza.

PPSC Chairman Sajjad Akram, while presenting the report of the commission, said, “Merit, transparency and integrity are distinguished features of our institute, winning the confidence of the public,” adding, “Online system has proven fruitful for redressing the complaints of the candidates, and its credit goes to the present government for making PPSC independent by extending cooperation at every level. No case of favouritism has been reported yet, which is an example of good governance in the province.”

Provincial Ministers Rana Sanaullah, Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Advisor Dr Umar Saif, chief secretary, additional chief secretary, senior member Board of Revenue, PPSC members and concerned secretaries attended the meeting.
