Indian President wishes Pakistan on National Day

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee extended greetings to Pakistan on its 77th National Day on Thursday.

Pranab Mukherjee took to Twitter to wish the neighbour on Pakistan Day. “Greetings to the government and people of Pakistan on their National Day,” Mukherjee wrote, adding that India is committed to building ties with Pakistan in an environment free from terror and violence.

Pakistan Day commemorates the passing of the Lahore Resolution, when a separate nation for the Muslims of The British Indian Empire was demanded on March 23, 1940.

Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang also has extended his warm congratulations and best wishes to the government of Pakistan and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the occasion.

The highlight of the day was the joint military parade which was held at the Parade Ground near Shakarparian hills in Islamabad. Chinese and Saudi troops and a Turkish military band also participated in the parade.

Addressing the ceremony as chief guest, President Mamnoon termed Pakistan’s defence as impregnable and said that the country’s conventional and nuclear capabilities were meant to ensure global and regional peace.

President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif urged the nation to uphold the principles that inspired the Muslims of the subcontinent to forge unity and create a separate country.

The president expressed resolve that the nation will not hesitate in rendering any sacrifice for defence, security, development, and prosperity of the country.

The president further stated that Pakistan is ready for dialogue with India and wants a resolution of the ongoing Kashmir dispute.
