RAWALPINDI: City Traffic Officer (CTO) Yousaf Ali Shahid on Wednesday urged the citizens to use alternate routes instead of Faizabad chowk to reach their destinations on Pakistan Day, particularly from 5 am to 2 pm.
He said though a comprehensive traffic plan has been formulated for March 23 but the cooperation of citizens is necessary to avoid traffic mess, mainly on Benazir Bhutto Road (Murree road).
He urged the citizens to cooperate with traffic police so that traffic problems could be addressed properly.
The CTO said Faizabad will remain closed for all kinds of vehicular traffic and Islamabad bound traffic will be diverted to Stadium Road.
CTP have finalised all arrangements, and under the traffic plan heavy traffic will be stopped at different points on Pakistan Day from 5am to 2pm, he added.
He said, in order to make security foolproof for March 23 parade, heavy traffic will not be allowed to enter in Rawalpindi. Buses, trucks, trailers and other heavy vehicles coming from Lahore will be stopped at Gujrat, Kharian, Jhelum and Rawat.
Similarly, public transport vehicles coming from Murree will not be allowed to move towards the capital city from Lower Topa, Satra Meel toll plaza.
Six DSPs, 21 Inspectors, 348 warden officers and 43 junior traffic wardens would perform special duties on March 23 to regulate traffic on all roads, he said, adding that traffic from Faizabad interchange to Rawaplindi and Islamabad will remain suspended.
He informed the Motorway and National Highway police have been requested not to allow heavy traffic coming from Peshawar to enter the city and should be stopped at Attock bridge, Harro bridge, Margalla, Taxila and Chungi No 26.
