ABBOTTABAD: Hazara Hydro Union President Jameed Akhtar Tanolli on Wednesday demanded a separate power distribution company for Hazara division for speedy addressal of complaints, besides smooth power supply to consumers.

He said Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (PESCO) is the only power supply company of the province, which is providing services to more than 3.5 million customers and suffering from huge losses. He urged the WAPDA to announce Hazara Electricity Supply Company (HESCO) through an executive order and make it a part of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Tanooli and local PML-N leadership made the demand through a letter written to the PM’s advisor on Aviation Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan.

In the letter, it was stated that despite huge losses from other areas, PESCO is collecting 25 billion rupees revenue from Hazara division, which is 30 per cent of the total of PESCO revenue, this huge amount can be utilised for creation of the new company.

They demanded to make a separate power supply company for Hazara region like Sukhar which was established through an executive order.

It stated that in Punjab province five power supply companies are working whereas keeping in view of day to day issues of customers of Hyderabad, the WAPDA had established Sukhur Electricity Supply Company (SESCO).

The old and long transmission lines of electricity is a major cause of low voltage and load shedding, unfair distribution of Evaluation of Energy loss Reduction (ELR) fund and small proportion in employment also affect people of Hazara, it said.

They disclosed that in Hazara division, 850 kilometer electricity transmission lines are installed while 22 grid stations, 2 circles and 10 sub-divisions are also working, line losses in the regions are about zero and revenue generation is 100 per cent.

They have suggested establishing a new power supply company HESCO in Hazara region to cope all issues including low voltage and load shedding.
