Intellectual empowerment of female students imperative: Governor Rajwana

Punjab Governor Malik Rafiq Rajwana on Monday said that the ray of hope reflected in the eyes of our talented, highly qualified and committed female students is in-fact the reflection of the vision to turn Pakistan into a modern, progressive, and egalitarian society.

He made these remarks in his presidential address at the first convocation of the Government Sadiq College for Women University, Bahawalpur.

“Intellectual empowerment of female students is imperative to create a solid, vibrant, and dynamic knowledge based economy which will accelerate the pace of development to turn Pakistan into a welfare state,” Governor Rajwana said. He said that the highly educated and skilled women would serve as a van-guard to sharpen the pace of socio-economic development in the country.

He congratulated Vice Chancellor Tallat Afza, the faculty members, parents, and students on the convocation, and awarded medals to high achievers and degrees to the graduates.

Earlier in her welcome address, the vice chancellor said that the university’s 14 departments and 5 faculties were running 26 different programs for more than 6,000 girl students. She further said that the government had allocated 125 acres for the establishment of a new campus of the university.

The ceremony was attended by Provincial Minister for Cooperative Malik Iqbal Channar, MPA Fouzia Ayub Qureshi, members of the syndicate committee, faculty members, and a large number of students and their parents.

Governor inpects Civil Hospital

Punjab Governor Malik Rafiq Rajwana also paid a surprise visit to Civil Hospital, Bahawalpur while in the city. During his visit, the governor inspected the emergency and outdoor wards, the pharmacy and other facilities at the hospital.

The governor went to the beds of the admitted patients and inquired about the medical services provided to them. He was satisfied with the running of the hospital after talking to the patients. He also inspected the polio counters, and directed the concerned officials conducting the polio eradication campaign to mobilize all available resources to attain the envisaged vaccination targets.

He was accompanied by Provincial Minister for Cooperative Malik Iqbal Channar, Bahawalpur Deputy Commissioner Rana Saleem Afzal, Dr Ehsan Firdous, and other officials of the concerned departments.
