SUKKUR: A four-day flower show began at Sukkur Muhammad Bin Qasim Park on Monday, featuring a number of seasonal ornamental varieties.

It was organised by the Sukkur Press Club in collaboration with the Taluka Municipal Administration (TMA).

The exhibition was attended by a large number of people from all walks of life from Sukkur and the other parts of the district.

Speaking as the chief guest, Mayor Sukkur Arslan Shaikh congratulated the Sukkur Press Club and TMA for organising the event and said it was important to have public events that could inculcate love for nature among the masses.

“We can’t truly succeed in nature conservation unless we love the environment we live in. Flower exhibitions touch our aesthetics and imaginations indicate that we are a healthy society,” he said.

Arslan said that rapid deforestation was a key challenge the country was faced with, and he also pointed out the measures to help save and grow forests to mitigate the impact of climate change.

Advocate Rizwana Memon said that in a city like Sukkur where people faced an acute water shortage in different areas, it was much easier to nurture cactus as it required little water.

“To nurture a cactus, you need as much water as a normal human being would need to take a bath,” she remarked.
