Sindh govt introduces biometric system in hospitals

KARACHI: Health Department has started an installation of biometric machines in the public sector hospitals of Karachi as well as in the interior Sindh to ensure a culture of punctuality among the employees.

Sindh Health Services Director and Karachi Health Director General (DG) Dr Muhammad Taufiq while talking to PPI, said installation of biometric machines had already started in Karachi, while the interior Sindh public sector hospitals’ heads had been directed to install biometric machines to ensure punctuality and regularity of doctors and other staff members.

Dr Taufiq said that the biometric system would be linked to the Sindh Health Office DG to monitor the employees’ attendance.

The system would also contribute to ensuring the provision of effective medical facilities to the patients on daily basis.

He said that the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras would also be installed to improve the performance of health facilities throughout the province, and added that a separate information unit had been established to monitor biometric machines and CCTV cameras.

Dr Taufiq said the district and taluka hospitals’ administration had been instructed to send a list of ghost employees to the Sindh Health DG with affidavit within two weeks to stop such malpractice.

The idea behind the installation of the biometric machines in Sindh public sector hospitals was to ensure punctuality and regularity of doctors and other staff members, he concluded.
