Evaluating the remarkable performance of the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (abbreviated as COMSATS) in promoting science and technology equally in Pakistan, as well as in its member states, Science and Technology Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain has said that the commission would achieve its goals of sustainable development in the South within its stipulated time.
The minister expressed these remarks at a gathering of diplomats hosted by him to introduce the newly appointed COMSATS Executive Director Dr SM Junaid Zaidi, who has recently assumed his charge.
He added that the government has now shown added confidence in his abilities by appointing him as the new COMSATS executive director. “It is our firm conviction that, under his able leadership, COMSATS will work rigorously towards achieving the aims and objectives of the commission.”
The event held at a local hotel had an impressive attendance of 75 dignitaries, including ambassadors and representatives from 22 foreign missions in Islamabad. The foreign missions from COMSATS’ member states belonged to Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Iran, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Nigeria, Palestine, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, and Tunisia, while those from non-member states belonged to Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Brunei, Mauritius, Oman, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan.
