BAHAWALNAGAR: Pakistan’s international athlete Nadia Nazir has passed away in a car accident near Bahawalnagar late Friday night.

Nadia, 34, was travelling with her family when their car met an accident. Her five-year-old also died along with her. Her husband was still under treatment in critical condition.

Nadia, who used to play for WAPDA at home, won several national events, with four national championship titles to her credit.

In April 2008, she created the national record of 400m hurdle race by completing the distance clocking just 1:01.50 in Lahore.

Pakistan Sports Board, Pakistan Olympic Association and Athletics Federation of Pakistan have expressed grief over the death of national athlete Nadia and have sent condolence messages to her family.

Earlier this year another footballer Shayla Baloch lost her life in a car accident in Karachi.
