KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: The first phase of the 6th population census exercise continues in 63 districts across the country. House listing in the first phase of Census 2017 has been completed while head-count will start on Saturday (today).

As per the census calendar, during the first phase, the census would be conducted in 16 districts of Punjab province, eight districts of Sindh, 14 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 15 districts of Balochistan, five districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and five districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.

For the first time, transsexual people will be counted separately. The forms had been printed well in advance of court decisions to include them in the count. Now enumerators have been informed that those surveyed will have three numeric choices for their gender: 1 for men, 2 for women, 3 for those who declare themselves transsexuals.

According to Chief Census Commissioner Asif Bajwa, it was the ultimate goal of the PBS to make the census process transparent and internationally acceptable and credible, so mechanism has been devised in a way to ensure its validity and credibility. He informed the media people that only ball point would be used for filling the forms.

Responding to a question, he said that if any house was missing in the house-listing operation they could access PBS through helpline for the inclusion of that house in the process.
