Daily-wage teachers to get salaries after several months

It seems that long and arduous efforts by the daily-wage teachers, serving in model colleges of the federal capital, have started paying dividends, as the government eventually decided to release their long-pending salaries.

The Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry held a meeting with Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar here on Friday in this regard, wherein they discussed the issue threadbare.

During the meeting, the finance minister has approved in principle the release of the daily-wage teachers’ salaries.

It is pertinent to mention here that daily-wage teachers did not get their salaries since November 2016.

Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry directed the CADD ministry officials to send the pending salaries case to the finance minister forthwith, so as to ensure the release of the salaries instantly.

The ministry thanked Dar for taking prompt and positive response on the issue of the long-delayed salaries of the daily-wage teachers.

The Federal Directorate Education (FDE) overseen by the CADD has more than 2,200 daily-wage staff members—both teaching and non-teaching—at its educational institutions in the capital, who have been under the employment of the FDE for the past eight years.

It is pertinent to mention here that IHC on Friday, while hearing the case of contract and daily-wage employees, expressed anger over the government’s non-serous attitude in pursuance of the case.

The court directed that secretary finance and secretary establishment division should provide a detailed report in the next hearing in this regard and postponed the hearing until March 31, 2017.
