Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal and opening batsman Ahmad Shahzad are likely to be included in the 16-member squad for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against West Indies.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee, headed by former captain Inzamamul Haq, will soon announce the squad for the limited-overs series in the Caribbean on Wednesday, which will also feature the likes of Pakistan Super League (PSL) second edition’s top performers Fakhar Zaman (Lahore Qalandars), Shadab Khan (Islamabad United), Rumman Raees (Islamabad United) and Usman Khan Shinwari (Karachi Kings).
The most notable omission from the squad is likely to be of former ODI captain Azhar Ali, who failed to keep his place in the side after resigning from the post following the team’s dismal performance in the five-match series against Australia earlier this year, whereas veteran all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez also could not manage to keep his place in the squad.
The Men in Green will face Windies in four T20Is, three ODIs and three Tests, starting from March 26.
The squad for the five-day format will be announced later.
Expected squad:
Sarfraz Ahmad (captain), Kamran Akmal, Fakhar Zaman, Ahmad Shahzad, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Umar Akmal, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali, Sohail Tanvir, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Amir, Rumman Raees, Usman Khan Shinwari
