- Gen Bajwa says LY-80 LOMADS can track, destry a variety of aerial targets
Pakistan Army on Sunday inducted Low to Medium Altitude Air Defence System (LOMADS) LY 80 in its air defence system, according to a statement issued here by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Addressing at the Army Auditorium, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa said that LY-80 LOMADS increases response capability to current and emerging air defence threats.
The LY-80 is a Chinese mobile air defence system, capable of tracking and destroying variety of aerial targets at longer ranges flying at low and medium altitude. On arrival, the military chief was received by Commander of Army Air Defence Command Lieutenant General Muhammad Zahid Latif Mirza.
The National Command Authority (NCA) – in its last meeting – reiterated the national resolve to maintain full spectrum deterrence capability in line with the dictates of credible minimum deterrence. This will be done to deter all forms of aggression while adhering to the policy of avoiding an arms race.
The civil and military leadership reviewed the regional security environment and was briefed on fast-paced developments with regard to strategic and conventional capabilities taking place in the neighbourhood. They said that the state remains fully cognizant of the evolving security dynamics of South Asia and would take all measures to safeguard its national security.
Pakistan seeks peace and strategic stability in South Asia as cornerstone of its policy and considers conflict resolution as a mean to achieve this end. The strategists are of the view that attitude and designs of Pakistan’s enemies have become obnoxious in the wake of conspicuous improvement in the law and order situation, economy and commendable success of the armed forces in wiping out terror and terrorists.
