Holi celebrated with traditional enthusiasm

KARACHI: The Hindu community of Sukkur, Khairpur, Ghotki, Jaccobabad, Kashmore-Kandhkot, Shikarpur and other districts of Sindh celebrated Holi on Sunday.

The event began on Sunday evening and will continue till the evening of Monday.

People sprayed red, yellow and silver powder colour on each other as the Holi is regarded as the beginning of spring season. Colourful events were held in different localities of Sukkur region.

Special ceremonies were held at Sadhu Bela Temple situated on the River Indus, Liaquat Chowk Temple, Sukkur and Balmiki Sabha Temple of Saddar Mohallah Shikarpur Station Road, etc.

The festival’s proceedings in Shikarpur were led by veteran astrologist Mangay Ram and PML-N leader Advocate Jai Jai Veshnu.

The festival was also celebrated with devotion and colourfully by Bagri community, a scheduled caste of Hindu community, in Kandhkot and Noshehroferoze.

Furthermore, the community in the metropolis also celebrated the festival with great zeal; the main gatherings were held at the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Panmukhi Hanuman Temple and Shri Laxmi Narayan Mandir besides community centres.

Sweets were also distributed besides, the holdings of feasts at homes.

Sprays of colours are also part of the Holi festivities.

Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair attended the Holi celebrations at the Governor House Staff Colony.

The event was organised by the Hindu employees of the Governor House.

According to media reports, Zubair has said that all minorities in the province were free to perform their religious affairs and the minorities have played a vital role in the development of the country, he added.

Separately, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has also felicitated the Hindu community. In a message, he said that equal opportunities of progress have been provided to the minorities and they have been included in the national mainstream.

The minorities enjoy full protection and religious freedom in the country, the Punjab CM added.
