Govt asks Abraaj Group to help improve healthcare system

Punjab Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Kh Salman Rafique here on Saturday said that the Punjab government would welcome the cooperation of international institutions for improving Punjab’s healthcare system.

The minister expressed these remarks while talking to a delegation of the Abraaj Group headed by its Health Fund Impact Committee’s Chairman Sir David Nicholson.

Salman Rafique said that the Punjab government was introducing reforms in the health sector for ensuring quality healthcare services for which the cooperation of developed countries and international institutions was being sought.

He said that the government was focusing on improving the performance of hospitals through outsourcing their management, services, security, and other departments.

Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Kh Imran Nazir said that the revamping of 40 tehsil and district headquarters hospitals (THQs and DHQs) was being carried out and that the government was encouraging public and private partnership for improving diagnostic services.

The meeting deliberated on the scope of cooperation between the Punjab health department and Abraaj Group.

It was decided that the group would submit a comprehensive report and recommendations to the government for joint-ventures after visiting the radiology department of Services Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Faisalabad, Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology, Rawalpindi Institute of Urology and, the pathology lab of King Edward Medical University.
