ATC reserves verdict on Kamran Farooque bail plea

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court-IX (ATC-IX) on Saturday reserved verdict on Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Provincial Assembly (MPA) Member Kamran Farooque’s bail plea; the decision would be announced on March 13.

The judge reserved his decision after hearing the arguments and would announce the decision on March 13.

The Rangers had arrested the MPA on December 16, 2017, from Garden Karachi area for allegedly carrying a hand grenade and an unlicensed pistol and handed him over to police for the investigation.

A case against the accused was registered at the Nabi Bakhsh police station on the complaint of the Rangers inspector.

The police, in the charge sheets, said that the suspect in his confessional statement recorded by a judicial magistrate on Dec 31 had not only confessed to carrying a grenade and an unlicensed weapon but also disclosed his and other party leaders’ involvement in the May 12 violence, the Tahir Plaza arson attack, ‘China-cutting’ and other cases.

After accepting the investigation reports, the administrative judge sent the cases to the ATC-IX for a trial.

The MPA, including Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar, another MPA Mohammed Adnan and others, was also booked in a number of cases related to rioting and attempted murder during the May 12, 2007, carnage in which around 50 people were killed and over 100 wounded.
