Rain, snowfall increase chill in upper parts of country

LAHORE: Rain and snowfall has gripped major parts of the country. In Punjab, the weather turned cold after rain lashed various cities.

Lahore received light rainfall in the morning while the temperature slid to 11°C last night in the aftermath of the cool breeze.

Tourists have begun to arrive in Murree, Galiyat and Skardu after snowfall on mountains.

Met office has predicted rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills associated with gusty winds at scattered places in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sahiwal divisions, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, while at isolated places in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat divisions and upper FATA during the next 12 hours.

A few hailstorms may occur in upper Punjab, Hazara division and Kashmir during this period.

Cold/ gusty winds are likely to blow in Sindh and Balochistan.

Temperature of some major cities recorded on Friday morning:

Islamabad and Muzaffarabad 7°C, Lahore 11°C, Karachi 23°C, Peshawar 9°C, Quetta 2°C, Gilgit 5°C and Murree 0°C.
