ACE arrests officials of irrigation department

Punjab’s Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), while tightening the noose around the corrupt mafia, arrested a number of officers of irrigation department on charges of corruption worth millions of rupees. Superintending engineer Latafat Qaseen and SDO Abdul Razzaq were arrested from Lahore, whereas executive engineer (XEN) Hakim Ali and sub-engineer Suhail Anwar were arrested from Sheikhupura. Raids are being conducted for the arrest of SDO Riaz Shah and Baildar Gulzar and Rafiq and other beneficiaries.

According to the details, Anti-Corruption Headquarters Circle Officer Syed Zubair Akhlaq arrested irrigation department superintending engineer Latafat Qaseen, and SDO Abdul Razzaq was found guilty of bogus payment worth Rs180 million in the mechanical workshop of Mughalpura, Lahore. XEN irrigation Abid Hussain Zaidi has already been arrested in the said case. ACE Sheikhupura Assistant Director Ch Maqbool Ahmed arrested XEN irrigation Hakim Ali and sub-engineer Sohail Anwer who were found guilty of selling mud illegally to contractors from Qadirabad and Balloki link canal.

Nasir Mehmood, a local resident of Khokhar Town, Sheikhupura, lodged a complaint in this regard, and inquiry was conducted by ACE Sheikhupura. ACE’s regional directorate’s technical wing also conducted an inquiry and found that assistant director technical Hamid Sattar established a loss of Rs1.6 million to the government exchequer. ACE is conducting raids to arrest SDO Riaz Shah, Baildar Rafiq, and Gulzar, as well as other beneficiaries involved in the case.
