A painting ‘Bauerngarten’ (Flower Garden) by Gustav Klimt has become the third most expensive artwork ever sold in Europe, after fetching a record price of £48million (around Rs6 billion).
Klimt’s ‘Bauerngarten’ became the Austrian symbolist’s highest-priced landscape work when it was sold at the London auction house on Wednesday.
The only works that have sold for more money in London are Alberto Giacometti s “Walking Man,” sold for $104.3m (£65m) in 2010, and Peter Paul Rubens “The Massacre of the Innocents,” which was sold for $76.7m (£49.5m) in 2002.
