Empowering women necessary for formation of enlightened society: Shehbaz

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, emphasizing the role of women in the development and progress of the country, said that empowering women was a necessary condition for the formation of an enlightened society.

Women have a vital role to play in strengthening Pakistan, the chief minister said, adding that Pakistani women were strong, educated, talented and hardworking, having proven their capabilities in every walk of life.

The Punjab government has increased women’s quota from 5% to 10% for government jobs and given age relaxations as well.

The provincial government is also building its first violence against women centre in Multan and more will be built in other cities of the province. The government is also building hostels to facilitate working women and providing training under the vocational training council. Women have also been given 33% of representation in all decision making boards and committees, and female representation made mandatory in the recruitment board for government jobs.
