Bilawal for more legislations to empower women

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has vowed to take measures to ensure women empowerment in the country. Bilawal also endorsed the United Nation’s 2,030 Agenda and its key Sustainable Development Goals for the women.

In his message on International Women’s Day, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the PPP has the distinct record in the world for electing a woman as the prime minister of any Islamic country in the world.

He said that Benazir Bhutto had launched concerted efforts for women empowerment and gender equality in Pakistan.

“From the establishment of First Women Bank, induction of women in higher judiciary and separate Police Stations to a distribution of land among landless women peasants, Benazir Bhutto made every possible effort to promote women into the national mainstream as equal partners in progress,” he added.

The PPP chairman said that the party had launched the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) after coming into power in 2008 in continuity of her vision. The BISP has been lauded worldwide by international forums eventually attaining an overall “A” Rating.

Bilawal said that the PPP has established the Women Development Department in Sindh and awarded the party tickets to women.

The PPP Chairman further pointed out that his party has enacted several legislations for the protection of women against any exploitation and perpetual atrocities.

“The PPP will bring in more legislation for the cause of women and their empowerment in future also,” he concluded.
