LHC directs FPSC to conduct Central Superior Services (CSS) examinations in Urdu

LAHORE High Court has directed Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) to conduct Central Superior Services (CSS) examinations in Urdu from next year. In Pakistan, most of the government jobs’ recruitment tests for various departments are carried out in English. However, last month, Lahore High Court have directed to conduct the CSS examinations in Urdu from next year. Similarly, a decision was passed in 2015 by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Following this, it will have its serious implications on the students preparing for upcoming CSS examinations as most of them have been preparing for exams for a long time and have worked hard to attain a command over English. Thus, if the government switches medium to Urdu, it is equivalent to retrograde them to the point from where they first started. Despite Urdu being a national language, little or no importance is given to it at school, college and university level. Majority of people neither speak nor write standard Urdu. Moreover, this can give rise to ethnic tensions as Pakistan is multi-lingual region. Therefore, I pledge the government to reconsider their decision and make arrangements accordingly.
