Taliban militants have long been the scourge of Pakistan's polio vaccination campaign, attacking aid workers and the police who protect them as they distribute doses to children. But experts say there is another reason for the sharp spike in cases of the crippling disease in Pakistan this year - government mismanagement. Picture taken October 21, 2014. RAWALPINDI: An anti-polio vaccination campaign is scheduled to begin in the district on March 8. The campaign was initially supposed to start from the 6th of March but had to be postponed due to security issues, according to reports.

The campaign was earlier delayed due to the 13th ECO summit in Islamabad.

The reports also say that proper security will be given to the polio team.

The district health authority (DHA) aims to vaccinate as many as 829,890 children aged up to five years a result of this campaign.

Pakistan is one of the only three remaining countries where polio has still not been completely eradicated. Polio eradication campaigns set by the government in Pakistan have been suffering from continuous setbacks ever since they were introduced.
