As the city of Lahore goes on lockdown for today’s PSL final, we must acknowledge the considerable security risk the government is weathering for it.
Contrary to public perception, it is the elder Sharif, not the younger, who wanted the PSL final in Lahore. If anything, the Punjab chief minister was more than shy of having it in Lahore. The prime minister had to call from Turkey, where he was on a state visit, to put his foot down and say it was going to be in Lahore.
It is going to be one hell of a ruckus. As opposed to India’s IPL, where both the Union and State governments make quite a bit of cash, the Federal and Punjab governments are going to have to dish out quite a bit of stash to keep things safe.

Speaking of Shehbaz Sharif, the man celebrated his birthday recently. But another hotshot young lawyer also got him a cake. A large one, with “SS” written on it.
The lawyer in question isn’t a particularly senior one or even remarkably gifted, for that matter. But this scion of a former senior member of the judiciary does the whole business aspect of running a law firm well. And that includes remembering birthdays well in advance. Government briefs can get lawyers hefty fees.

Despite singing the PSL anthem last time, pop-star Ali Zafar has made it known that he will not be performing at the final this year in Lahore. The fellow is citing schedule clashes with a shoot of some sort. Which isn’t much of an excuse. Other plans could be suspended for a day or two for something as critical as the PSL. Is he scared of an eventuality or is the PCB not paying enough for him to be interested?
In either case, the fine folk of social media are certainly not letting him hear the end of the criticism.
