CM Shehbaz orders inquiry into mix-up at Oscar’s Best Picture announcement

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered on Tuesday an inquiry into the mix-up at the Academy Awards ceremony.

He has already constituted a committee that will investigate the issue and bring those responsible to task.

“Our initial goal is going to be forming a fact-finding mission and then, we will be forwarding recommendations to the effect,” said Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, member Punjab cabinet and chief of the 7-member committee. “What happened at the night of the awards was absolutely embarrassing and took away from the incredible hard work done by not just the awards committee but also the Punjab government as a whole.”

“We will be flying out to Los Angeles by mid-next week and hope to get our work done as soon as possible,” he said. “And then, of course, we will make our pitch to the MPAA to have the next Oscar awards in Lahore. Our success at holding the PSL final match here is proof-of-concept of our ability to provide a safe environment for such an event. Yes, it would be the first time the Oscars would be held in a cricket ground, but there is always a first time for everything.”
