WASHINGTON: Former President of the United States of America, George W. Bush recently levelled tacit criticism at incumbent American President Donald J. Trump during an interview.
George Bush’s tenure is perhaps still fresh in the minds of Muslims around the globe when following the 9/11 attacks, a global ‘War on Terror’ was launched which till date, impacts the world.
During the interview, Bush weighed in on Donald Trump’s policies with regard to the media, Russia and the infamous ‘Muslim ban’.
“I think a free press is indispensable to democracy,” said Bush. “We needed the media to hold people like me to account. Power can be very addictive and it can be corrosive, and it’s important for the media to call to account people who abuse their power,” he said.
With regard to the temporary travel ban imposed by President Trump on seven predominantly Muslim countries from around the world, Bush seemed to criticise the incumbent President’s policy but tacitly.
“I am for an immigration policy that is welcoming and upholds the law,” he said.
Bush also talked about the issue of the role of Trump’s advisers and their possible link to Russian hackers, stating that he had no idea whether a special prosecutor should investigate the issue or not.
“I think we all need answers. I’m not sure the right avenue to take,” he said.
