JI warns NADRA, K-Elec of protest

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chapter Chief Naeem-ur-Rehman has warned the K-Electric and National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) of a public agitation if they failed to resolve longstanding issues of people.

He expressed these views while addressing a local ‘Jirga’ of residents in Bihar Colony area of Lyari Town. He said that both the KE and NADRA have been irking the citizens for several years.

Rehman charged that the KE has been looting people through bogus billings, overcharging, super-fast meters and unannounced power outages.

Similarly, he added that incompetency of the NADRA has also tormented the citizens. It has been said for more than a year that mega centres of the NADRA would be established in Karachi but there has not been any progress in this regard.

Rehman also criticised the local government for failing to serve the citizens. He said that 60,000 plus employees of local bodies’ institutions get salaries but a few of them actually work.

The JI leader further said that the politics of hate has given nothing to Karachi and there is no more room for hate politics in the city.

Rehman also criticised the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) for ruining the city of lights. He demanded of the government to ensure merit in provision of jobs to citizens and to ensure rights and quotas of minorities.

JI leader Abdul Rasheed, Malik Muhammad Fayyaz, Fazalur Rehman and Habib Hassan also spoke on the occasion.
