The Indian government is set to introduce new models of pellet guns designed to minimise injuries  in anti-militancy operations reported the Times of India.

CRPF Director General K Durga Prasad announce the decision which has taken into account the numerous severe eye injuries that happened in Indian occupied Kashmir.

According to the Times of India report, the modified version of pellet guns will have a “deflector”, an attachment on the muzzle end to prevent the pellets from going up.

The force has tasked a special BSF workshop to deploy metal ‘deflectors’ on the muzzle of these guns so that shrapnel in the pellets do not hit above the abdomen region.

Directives have also been issued asking the paramilitary force to fire the pellets at the feet of possible protesters rather than at the earlier standard of firing at the abdomen region. The force is also set to coordinate with the special sections of the police force present in occupied Kashmir.
