Mahela Jayawardene, the former Sri Lanka captain, said Friday domestic Pakistan players will benefit from Pakistan Super League (PSL) with the passage of time, just like the IPL and BBL.
“This is my first time in PSL,” said Jayawardene, adding these types of leagues are good for domestic players. I am sure young domestic Pakistan players will benefit from this league with the passage of time, just like the IPL and BBL, he said.
He also urged fans and media to give some time to the talented but inexperienced Sri Lankan team, saying expectations are always high and prompt in the subcontinent.
“I think talent is there but they have come to international cricket with little first-class experience,” said Jayawardene. “Expectations are always high in the subcontinent but this Sri Lankan team needs some time. Let them grow with time.”
Jayawardene, 39, who is in Dubai as supplementary player for Karachi Kings in the PSL, retired from international cricket two years ago after an illustrious career comprising 149 Tests and 448 One-Day Internationals. He also featured in 55 Twenty20 Internationals, including the 2014 World T20 final that Sri Lanka won, beating India.
“I am enjoying leagues and that’s why I am here. I featured in New Zealand’s season for Central Districts and had success there so I am here for PSL which is a very good tournament,” said Jayawardene.
