The Kashmir issue stands strong in the list of the world’s worries despite India’s mantra that Kashmir was an inseparable part of the country and that the freedom movement was illegitimate. Its relevance highly intact, the Kashmir dispute remains a focus of the world until UN resolutions come into play to liberate the Kashmiri people from India’s tyrannical occupation.

These views were expressed by PML-N leader and foreign affairs expert Muhammad Mehdi during a two-day seminar titled “Kashmir in focus: avoiding conflict and quest for peace” organized by the Punjab University Pakistan Study Center here on Wednesday. Senator Mushahidullah Khan and other notable speakers also spoke on the occasion.

“The international community’s ever-increasing engagement on the Kashmir conflict has set a tone of avidity for the solution of Kashmir’s unfinished agenda as a worldwide flash point. US President Donald Trump’s aspiration to resolve the dispute during his call with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the holding of the Kashmir Euro Week by the European parliament, Norway’s step to form a special committee on Kashmir, China’s endorsement of Pakistan stance on Kashmir, Iran’s offer for arbitration during the Heart of Asia Conference, Canadian peace alliance activities on Kashmir, and other efforts, are conspicuous examples showing world’s seriousness regarding the dispute,” he said.

He underlined the need to constitute ‘special focus groups’ on Kashmir with combination of those parliamentarians, scholars, and others who grasped the issue and have meticulous knowledge on how to plead Kashmir’s case on every platform that matters.
