LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that Rangers will be given more powers in Punjab than they have in Karachi.
Talking to the BBC Urdu on Tuesday, he defended the government’s decision to seek assistance from the Rangers to eradicate terrorism and said: “They will be granted stop-and-search powers as well as the authority to arrest persons they suspect of aiding or abetting terror in Punjab.”
Elaborating the matter, the minister said the Rangers have been present in Punjab for some time and the move will only increase their numbers and power.
The law minister said that the prime minister and the chief of army staff had re-evaluated Pakistan’s national security policy keeping in view the growing terrorist activities in the country, and had decided that the action would be taken against all those acting within Pakistan as well as across border to nip the evil from the bud.
